Jackets and outerwear tailored from Italian fabrics

A jacket is the most visible garment in a wardrobe. It is worn over tailoring, knitwear, and casual outfits and determines appearance, style, and character at a glance. At Kristiaan Esch International, every jacket, overcoat, or blouson starts not with the model, but with the fabric.

Luxury outerwear starts with the right fabric

Tailoring the Essence of Luxury

Why fabric is crucial in outerwear

Outerwear fabrics must do more than suit fabrics: protect against cold and wind, be comfortable to wear over multiple layers, and maintain their shape and luxurious appearance. We select these fabrics with the same precision as our tailored suits — but with extra attention to functionality, weight, and finishing.

With custom outerwear, fabric choice is decisive for both comfort and appearance, as each jacket or body warmer is precisely tailored to the wearing moment, layering, and body shape.

In outerwear, fabric determines:

  • Protection against the elements
  • Insulation without bulk
  • Drape over tailoring
  • How a jacket “falls” over tailoring
  • How the garment ages with use

At Kristiaan Esch, we select outerwear fabrics based on:

  • Fiber composition
  • Weight and density
  • Weaving and finishing
  • Natural or technical treatments

The result is outerwear that is functional yet always remains elegant.

Frequently asked questions about jackets & custom outerwear

What is the difference between a custom jacket and a ready-to-wear jacket?

+

A custom jacket is fully designed based on your body measurements, posture, and wearing style. Unlike ready-to-wear, tailoring takes into account shoulder position, sleeve insertion, length, and balance over tailoring or knitwear. The result is a jacket that not only fits better but also falls more elegantly and is more comfortable to wear — both open and closed.

What fabrics are used for custom jackets?

+

For our custom jackets, we exclusively work with high-quality Italian outerwear fabrics, including Loro Piana and Fratelli Piacenza. These fabrics offer the perfect balance between insulation, breathability, and luxurious appearance. Depending on the season, cashmere, wool, blends, or technically refined weaves are available.

When do I choose which fabric for outerwear?

+

The right fabric depends on the season and use:

  • Overcoats & pea coats: heavier wool or cashmere qualities for warmth and structure.
  • Carcoats & short jackets: mid-weight fabrics for daily and versatile use.
  • Blousons, bomber jackets & field jackets: more casual fabrics with comfort and freedom of movement.

During the design process, we personally advise you on the most suitable fabric.

Bodywarmers: ideal in the mid-season or for daily use where full outerwear is not needed. They provide warmth to the core of the body while allowing full freedom of movement in the arms. Also perfect as an extra layer under a jacket or over tailoring.

What does a custom jacket cost at Kristiaan Esch?

+

Our custom bodywarmers start at €495 and the bomber jacket starts at €625. Field jackets and blousons start at €750 and winter coats from €895. The final price depends on the chosen fabric, model, and finishing. Included are personal advice, precise measurements, and a jacket made specifically for you.

Is a custom jacket suitable to wear over tailoring?

+

Yes. Our jackets are designed with attention to wearing space over blazers, jackets, or knitwear. This allows the jacket to fall naturally without looking bulky and maintains its elegant silhouette — even when layered.

How long does a custom jacket last?

+

A custom jacket is designed as a long-term piece. Due to high-quality fabrics, correct construction, and better balance on the body, the jacket retains its shape and appearance for years, often significantly longer than ready-to-wear outerwear.

Can I have the same jacket made again later?

+

Yes. Once your size profile is established, a custom jacket can be reproduced — possibly in a different fabric or with subtle adjustments. Ideal when you want the same model in a different version.

How does the process of a custom jacket work?

+

The process starts with choosing the fabric and type of jacket. Next, the model, length, and details are determined, and your measurements are taken accurately. The jacket is then specially made for you, with attention to wearing comfort, functionality, and appearance.
